Cindy Morriss

Cindy Morriss is a lifelong Texan, having spent her childhood and early adulthood in Dallas. There, she graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University with a degree in English in 1974, and after a two- year stint working for the Texas Medical Association, she returned to SMU for law school, graduating in 1979. She practiced law with Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal for a number of years, and as her legal interests focused on health care law, she joined the Dallas office of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, a large Chicago law firm with a substantial health care law practice. While in Dallas, Cindy served on the Dallas Historical Preservation Board, the Dallas County AIDS Commission, was President of a United Way agency, Dallas Epilepsy Association, and with numerous other non-profit and professional organizations.
Since 1995, Cindy, her husband Jim, an environmental attorney at Thompson and Knight, and their three children, Lauren, Katherine and Matthew, have had the good fortune to live in Austin. There, Cindy has worked with many non-profit organizations and educational institutions. She currently serves on the Boards of the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation, the St. Stephen’s Parent’s Association (where she is chair of the Speaker’s Series), and the Toughest Race in Texas. In past years, she has been on the Board of Advocacy, Inc., has been President and Program Chairman of the Eanes Talented and Gifted Association, Coordinator of Substitute Teachers at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, on the Eanes ISD GT Advisory Committee, the Eanes ISD Special Education Advisory Committee, on the Eanes Elementary GT Selection Committee, Chair of the Eanes Elementary Cultural Arts Committee, on the Texas Department of Health Epilepsy Advisory Committee. In addition, she has served as a trained discussion leader for the Junior Great Books program, as a weekly library volunteer at Eanes Elementary School for 7 years, and as a reading volunteer at Becker Elementary and Travis Heights Elementary Schools in AISD.
Cindy’s true love is literature. She also enjoys classical and world music, religion, travel, and discussion of education, health care, and disability issues.
