I ran across Badgerdog last year while researching a summer camp for my seventh-grade daughter. She'd been working on a novel for more than a year, and I wanted to find a program that would help unleash more of her creativity as well as enhance her writing style. She was very much against the idea of going to a writing camp, believing it would be more educational than inspirational, and she had hoped to enjoy her summer. By the end of her first week with Badgerdog, she was loving it! She enjoyed the freedom to write what she was interested in and learn in an environment that encouraged and enhanced her own writing style. From that point on, a whole new level of creativity and passion had been released and it showed in her recreational writing as well as her school assignments. We are both looking forward to going back again this year! Connie Calvin I was thinking of you both in gratitude (Melanie and Laurie) after my daughter read these, and other poems, at the talent show last week at the Waldorf High School. I had encouraged her to share some poetry at the show and she refused. After having been asked by one of her classmates and finding out they were short on acts, she gave in and decided to do it. What she was adamant about was not wanting to share what was deep in her heart in public. And, she was absolutely sure she would not introduce them to give people a context for the poems. Well, as it turned out, she beautifully introduced each poem, and peoples' hearts were so touched by her poems. For days people have come up to us talking about how their hearts were so touched. . . . She received such a blessing back by realizing how her sharing had touched so many people. . . . I am so grateful to you, Melanie, for what you have provided with Badgerdog as a launching pad for creative expression and to you, Laurie, for being a very gifted, inspired, and inspiring teacher and guide for writing poetry.
