Program Description: Standards-aligned writing workshops led by Austin's best writers—award-winning poets, novelists, playwrights, and essayists. Students write poetry and prose, and learn to revise and edit their own work for publication. The program culminates in the publication of a library-quality anthology and two public readings, the second followed by a book signing with the students. A copy of the published anthology is donated to each student's school library as well as to every branch of the Austin Public Library. The YVI anthology can also be purchased at BookPeople.

We also offer the program to students at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin, Texas, with the option of a Braille anthology (Youth Voices Embossed).

Eligible Age Group: grades 3–12

Program Duration (Total Program Hours): Up to 30 instructional hours

Students return to their regular classrooms as stronger readers, writers, and peer editors, and thereby help transform their schools into literary communities.
